Design a new monument that tells a story about the identity, values, and history of your community.
What is this challenge?
Throughout history and across cultures, monuments have been designed to express cultural identity and societal values, and tell stories to future generations. After exploring some of the world’s most fascinating examples, you will learn about the controversy around the Henry Dundas monument in Edinburgh, and have the opportunity to take part in a debate on the subject. Finally, you will design a monument that reveals a previously untold story about the identity, values, or history of your own local community.

What happens at the end?
You will receive a Certificate of Achievement and have the opportunity for your work to be included in an online gallery. A young person aged 16-18 who submits an outstanding piece of work will have the opportunity to undertake work experience or mentoring with a leading Scottish architect.
