My Community, My Food
Goal 2 - Zero Hunger
Learn about the foods produced in your area and create an original, sustainable meal from local ingredients.
What is this challenge?
Strawberries may not be in season in the depths of a Scottish winter – yet they can readily be found on our supermarket shelves. However, transporting food across the planet requires vast amounts of fossil fuels, pesticides, protective packaging, preservative coatings, and labour. In this challenge, you will learn about the Local Food Movement that is gathering momentum across the globe. You will research the foods that grow within 100 miles of your location and then create your own recipe made from these foods. Along the way you’ll get tips from 2019 MasterChef finalist Jilly McCord on how to combine ingredients.

What happens at the end?
You will receive a certificate of completion, and will have the opportunity for your work to be published in an online recipe book. A young person aged 16-18 who submits an outstanding piece of work will be given the opportunity to spend a day with the chefs at a leading Scottish restaurant.
