Weekend Workshop: Design for the Planet

FIDA is delighted to host a design workshop on 6th-7th November for pupils in S4-S6.  Young people will collaborate with architects from two leading Scottish practices, as well as an artist and a historian. Over the two days, they will first explore how human societies have used monuments down the ages to capture important messages. They will participate in a debate hosted by Parallel Histories to explore how monuments can become controversial when a society’s values shift, through the case study of the Henry Dundas monument in Edinburgh. They will then go on to design and build a concept model of an original monument that conveys a message about the state of the planet, as a wake-up call to the leaders assembled at COP26 and our whole generation.  The workshop is open to pupils of all interests but might be of particular value to those thinking about future study or career paths in architecture, design, art, history or politics.  It will be hosted at Dollar Academy and is free of charge. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  To register your interest or for more information, please get in touch at https://fida.world/contact-us/
