The Tartan for Clackmannanshire now officially on the Scottish Register of Tartans.
The Tartan for Clackmannanshire, designed as part of a FIDA Challenge in 2023, was registered on the official Scottish Register of Tartans on 27 August 2024.
Ronan Anderson, from Dollar Academy, designed the Tartan. The colours represent the nature and culture of the Wee County, celebrating the people, history and achievements: red represents the red squirrels in the trees of the hillfoots, the old red sandstone of the Ochil’s and the autumn colours across the landscape; blue for the bluebell woods, the cobalt mines near Alva and the blue tattoos of the Pictish Miathi tribe who made their home in the Ochils; black is for the old coal industry and the Black Devon which springs from the Ochils; white is for the clouds at the base of the Ochils, sheep that dot the countryside and provided the wool for the textile industries, and the snowcapped hills in winter; yellow is for the wheat fields and golden barley used in the ales of the local brewing industry. The green represents the rolling hills and woodlands which together with the black and white of the Erskine and red and yellow of the Bruce families all feature in the heraldic crest of Clackmannanshire.
